Troop 1602

Lake Havasu Family Campout

WHEN: Friday, August 20th - Monday, August 23rd 2010

WHERE:  Lake Havasu

MEET: EARLY AM

RETURN: Monday evening

WHO ATTENDS: It is highly recommended that you attend as a family, due to distance and driving logistics.

COST: $80 per person , plus food (appx. $40). Total per person: appx $120

All meals will be done at the group level for cost and efficiency. We will set up a main campsite with a large camp kitchen, and will cook and dine together. You will not need to bring your own kitchen setup or food, just tents for your family and personal gear. Food cost for the trip is still TBD, but the food will likely come out to $40 per person.

DESCRIPTION: Our driving destination will be on the California side, approximately 14 miles from Parker Dam. The last 7 miles is dirt road, but it is driveable by car. There is plenty of free parking.

The campsite will be at Bowman's island on the Arizona side. The island and contour of the bank forms a small cove, ideal for swimming and fishing. We will use our boats to ferry everything across from the parking area.

The island campsite is only about 50 feet offshore from the Arizona bank. Depending on the number of attendees, we may also occupy some spaces on the bank. There are non-flush toilets at the campsites.

What to bring: You may bring your water toys (boats, jetskis, etc). There is no launch or trailer storage fee.

                         Bring your Permission Slip!!

Restrictions: None.  All scouts are welcome.

Uniform: Class A to Travel.  Class B t-shirt in camp

Scouts wishing to participate in water activities will be required to pass a swim test, the same requirement in place for Summer Camp.

This is our first water-skiiing trip to the River of this kind. Please consider attending and help us make this a success!

We will be required to have several adults with us who have completed Youth Protection, BSA Safe-Swim, and Safety Afloat training, and are willing and able to be the eyes on the water. This training is available online. Each module can be completed in about an hour.

Scouts and leaders will need the BSA Medical form (including physical exam) in order to attend. For those attending Summer Camp, the BSA Medical form from summer camp will be valid for this trip.
